AMI Montessori 6-12 Assistants Course Adjunct
We offered one AMI 6-12 Assistants Course (AMI 6-12 Orientation Course + AMI 6-12 Assistants Course Adjunct) in Egypt, online with Madhavi Gaddam in October/November 2020.
Important Note:
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the AMI Assistants Courses were offered entirely online and renamed Orientation Courses. Some AMI Training Centers with a history of offering Assistants Courses continued to use the name Assistants Courses rather than Orientation Courses.
However, AMI’s Pedagogical Team has decided to enable Training Centers to offer both online Orientation Courses and an additional onsite Assistants Course Adjunct. The decision is effective starting from 31st March 2022.
This means that all Orientation courses and certificates offered by AMI Training Centers around the world before 31st March 2022 are considered Assistants Courses.

Course Description
The AMI 6-12 Assistants Course Adjunct supplements the AMI 6-12 Orientation Course. It provides practical experience regarding the Role of an Adult as an Assistant in a Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 6-12. Receipt of the AMI 6-12 Orientation Course Certificate of Completion is required to participate in the AMI 6-12 Assistants Course Adjunct for. Successful participation in all 6-12 Assistants Course Adjunct Requirements leads to the award of the AMI 6-12 Assistants Course Certificate of Completion.
Course Components
- Overview of the Montessori 6-12 Prepared Environment: Tangible and Intangible Elements
- The Role of the Lead Adult in the Montessori 6-12 Prepared Environment
- The Role of an Assistant in the Montessori 6-12 Prepared Environment
- Exploration of Activities Appropriate to the Assistants Role for ages 6-12, including but not limited to:
– Observation to support the work of children and adults during the Second Plane
– Appropriate Interactions with the 6-12-year-old child, including the manner of speaking; appropriate direction; appropriate re-direction
– The Organization and Importance of ‘Going Out’ to Implement the child’s Self Construction; Accompanying children on ‘Going Out’
– Modeling appropriate behaviors in the 6-12 Environment, including aspects of language, movement, and general activity
– Ordering Supplies for the 6-12 Environment - Supporting Intellectual Independence
- As appropriate for the 6-12 level: Sample activities and materials–design; techniques for presentation; material maintenance; material-making
- Maintaining the Indoor and Outdoor Environments for ages 6-12
- The Importance of Regular Meetings with the Lead Adult in the Environment
- The Importance of Confidentiality in the Assistant’s Role

Additional readings at the discretion of the Trainer. Selected passages may be translated for use on the Course, at the discretion of the Trainer.
Certificate
This international certificate qualifies the student to work as an AMI Elementary Classroom assistant anywhere around the world. It is also a useful stepping-stone to the AMI Montessori Diploma and is invaluable for parents. The Certificate is awarded to students who have satisfied the 90% attendance requirements and have completed coursework to the required standard. Digital Certificates will be emailed to you after successfully completing the course. Hard copy certificates might be available upon request (AMI will probably discontinue issuing hard copy certificates).
