Our fifth AMI 3-6 Orientation Course will be led by Maria Luisa Del Riego from May, 3 to June 3, 2023.
We offered this course in Cairo three times with Diwo Lhamo Pemba: August 2017, April 2018, and January-March 2019.
We offered this course in Cairo with Nathalie Justine in November 2019.
Fifth AMI 3-6 Orientation Course Schedule:
Schedule in Cairo Time: Saturdays from 4:00 to 9:00 PM + Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 PM (Please note that we made a change in the hours as Egypt decided to change the hour starting Friday, April 28th. This change will be announced and communicated to those who have already registered with an option to withdraw from the course if the new schedule is not suitable).
Students will also need to complete approximately 27 asynchronous hours of Self-guided learning activities and assigned readings with interactive assignments.

The AMI Montessori Orientation Course for Ages 3–6 is an introduction to the developmental characteristics and needs of children ages 3–6. It supports understanding this developmental stage for parents, caregivers, school staff, or any individual seeking general knowledge about Montessori developmental theory and education. Successful participation in all Orientation Course Requirements leads to the award of the AMI Orientation Course ‘Certificate of Completion’ at the 3–6 level.
Course Objectives
- To gain a general knowledge of the Montessori approach to childhood development and education
- To explore how an adult can best support optimal development for this age group in any environment and as needed, to identify and remove obstacles to optimal development
- To understand the unique nature of the 3–6-year-old child’s mind (the Absorbent Mind), the powers for development that are active at this stage, and the needs and characteristics of children at this stage of development
- To understand the general importance of Observation as a basis for providing developmental support to 3–6-year-old children in any environment
Course Content
- General Introduction to Montessori Theory and Education, including Human Tendencies and the Four Planes of Development, with special reference to the needs and characteristics of the First Plane
- The role of an adult as a collaborator and facilitator in a 3–6-year-old child’s self-construction and adaptation to culture
- The role of an environment in providing necessary conditions to support a 3–6-year-old child’s self-construction and adaptation to culture: the Home; the Montessori Prepared Environment for ages 3–6
- The importance of Observation: purpose, technique, and self-reflection, as appropriate for ages 3–6
– Self-Construction and Cultural Adaptation:
– The Absorbent Mind –‘The Conscious Worker’ and the Development of Character and Society, with reference to the Sensitive Periods
– The Child as a Sensorial Learner
– The Importance of Order with Emphasis on the Role of Order in the Development of the Personality
– The Coordination and Refinement of Movement
– The Refinement of Language
– Social Development and Social Cohesion
– The Development of Independence, including Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual Independence as conditions for Human Interdependence (First Plane)
– The Montessori concepts of Freedom and Discipline and the importance of Limits for the Development of spontaneous Self-Discipline
– The Development of the Will and the Three Stages of Obedience

Additional readings at the discretion of the Trainer.
Certificate and Requirements
The international AMI 3-6 Orientation Certificate of Completion is awarded to students who have satisfied a minimum of 90% attendance and have completed coursework to the required standard. The coursework includes engagement, 9 hours of observation, and Assignments reflecting integration and synthesis of content, as determined by the Trainer.
Digital Certificates will be emailed to you by Association Montessori Internationale from the Netherlands after successfully completing the course (There are no printed certificates).
